This is a two-year course leading to the internationally recognized HND. This HND Diploma is a certification of knowledge offering a variety of employment choices in the Tourist and Hospitality Industry, specialising on careers in the Leisure and tourism sector.
The course aims to give well-rounded, interdisciplinary knowledge in theoretical and practical levels of administrating in the Tourism Industry.
Also, the course aims to provide students with the necessary business skills with which to operate in Tourism Industry as it is considered to be one of biggest and strongest industries all over the world. The course, examines the economical, social, political and, , environmental aspects of Tourism. Students are to develop specialised business skills and they will have the chance to focus their studies on administrating tourism businesses, transportation and framework where the businesses operate (legal, political and human resources framework).
It also can be used as a prerequisite for entry onto the 3rd year of Bachelor in Hospitality Management offered at many UK universities or other educational institutions internationally.
Students who wish to apply for the course must need to produce Secure English Language Test (SELT) certificate from a UK Boarder Agency approved provider, showing that they have achieved level B1 on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) in each of the components: Speaking; listening; reading; and writing. Students will automatically meet the language requirements if they are a nation of the English-speaking country.
You will study a core of subjects with a choice of options. This allows you to choose topics of interest and also to relate choices to your chosen career path. The HND is closely aligned with our BA degree. Students with proven ability may transfer to the degree at the end of the second year.
To achieve the HND qualification, students are required to complete sixteen units; seven of them are Core units and nine of them are Specialist units.
Students also require taking further 9 specialist units and the list of the 9 specialist units is available in our academic office.
Generally, we place more emphasis on continuous assessment than examinations. Although examinations feature, particularly at the end of the semester, they rarely have a weighting greater than 50% of the value of each unit. Most assessments take the form of assignment and project work. So homework or private study is required.
Students can take up positions of responsibility in all areas of the diverse Tourist and Hospitality Industry, specialising on careers in the Leisure and tourism sector. Alternatively students may wish to continue their educational progression to achieve a BA (Honours) top-up degree, through a year at university
This is a broad-based multi-disciplinary course designed to allow a wide choice of initial employment in any sector of the hospitality industry, and to facilitate flexibility in career development. Employment prospects are excellent. Additionally, on completion of the HND, some students successfully transfer to the final years of degree courses.
